David Murphy graduated as a vet from University College Dublin in 1990. Between 1990 and 1997, he worked and studied at the University of Glasgow’s School of Veterinary Medicine, where he completed a PhD. Following a period in general veterinary practice in Ireland, he joined the veterinary department of the Health Products Regulatory Authority in 1999. In his role as veterinary assessor at the HPRA, his primary responsibility is the review of safety and efficacy data submitted in support of applications for authorisation to market veterinary medicinal products. Between 2009 and May 2016, he was the Irish representative on the Committee for Medicinal Products for Veterinary use (CVMP) of the European Medicines Agency. Currently (since June 2016), he is the Chair of the CVMP.
